My final walkthrough of The Mirage Las Vegas, just 19 days before the iconic property closed for good. The Mirage opened in 1989, was the first megaresort in Las Vegas, and was funded through junk bonds - A strategy that proved successful. The resort was the brainchild of Steve Wynn. The 29-story resort had 3,000+ rooms, a dolphin and big cat habitat, a beloved pool scene, and a volcano out front that erupted nightly. The Mirage was featured in an array of popular movies like “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid”, “Leaving Las Vegas”, “Sgt. Bilko”, and “Indecent Proposal”, among others. The most popular movie, in my opinion at least, however, was "Vegas Vacation". Mirage's Atrium was its signature attraction, boasting a 100-foot-tall glass dome that was home to 100 different varieties of plant life, waterfalls, and amazing scents. Entertainment at The Mirage was abundant over the years and included the "Aces of Comedy" show, "Beatles LOVE", and the iconic Siegfried and Roy. Hard Rock International purchased The Mirage in 2022 and closed the resort on July 17th, 2024, as it transitions to Hard Rock Las Vegas. The Volcano has been removed and will be replaced by a guitar-shaped hotel tower along the Las Vegas Strip. As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Mirage's closure, we figured it would be a fun, nostalgic blast from the past to share the footage I grabbed during my final visit.
